The National Youth Authority, Upper West Regional Directorate on June 17, 2021 engaged with some youth groups in the Wa West District of the Upper West Region on development related decision making.
The engagement held under the theme dubbed “Engagement of the youth in development related decision making” was to offer space for the youth to meet with some stakeholders and ask prudent questions on development related decision making.
The Wa West Acting Director of the National Youth Authority, Felix Wuurah in his welcome address says the engagement was to offer an opportunity for the voices of the youth in Upper West Region to be heard as well as creating room for the youth to get counselling from opinion leaders and duty bearers.
He further indicated that no country can develop without tapping the knowledge and skills of its youth group hence his plea for the youth to be given the needed attention in decision making process.
Meanwhile, the Upper West Regional Director of the National Youth Authority, Mr. Archibald Donko Junior indicated that, the youth in their quest to development are been crippled with some challenges that need the urgent attention of the policy makers. He said the youth of Upper West Region are faced with unemployment, drug addiction, risky lifestyles among others stressing that if urgent attention is not given to them, they may culminate into social vices.
The youth were taken through series of engagements and briefings by duty bearers and stakeholders.
In an interview with some of the participants, they expressed their satisfaction and gratitude to the National Youth Authority and Plan International Ghana for bringing up such dialogue which they described as an eye opener engagement.
“We are so grateful to the organisers of this forum in fact I have learnt of a lot of things from the programme, I initially thought that one cannot do anything without money but today I was told the ways and manner in which I can raise capital for my own business” Charles a participant stated.
