Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has floored his contenders in the Upper West Region in the just ended NPP Super Delegates Conference by bagging home 23 votes out of a 32 member electoral college in the region.
His victory in the region left his close contender Alan John Kwadwo Kyeramanten with 4 votes followed by Dr. Owusu Afriyie Akoto who polled 3 botes, Ken Ohene Agyapong managed and secured 2 votes from the region.
The rest of the six aspiring candidates could not convince the special delegates in the region to have offered them any vote thereby leaving them with zero (0) score points.
Campaign Coordinators and supporters of Dr. Bawumia in the region expressed joy over the election and were optimistic that the victory will replicate itself in the elephant party’s general conference come November 2023 during the final selection of the party’s flagbearer for the 2024 general elections.
Meanwhile, Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia who was declared as the leading aspiring candidate in the selection of the first four (4) candidates for the general conference appealed to the party functionaries to still stay united adding that, the party is working towards a win in the December 2024 elections stressing that unity must be trumpeted at every given time.
However, two of the candidates Boagye Agyarko and Francis Adei Nimoh had a tie (9 votes each) that will result in another sprint come Saturday for the two if none decides to step down for the other.
At the end of polls nationwide the following results were obtained;
1. Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia 629 votes (68.15%)
2. Ken Ohene Agyapong 132 votes (14.30%)
3. Alan John Kwadwo Kyeramanten 95 votes (10.29%)
4. Owusu Afriyie Akoto 36 votes (3.90%)
5. Francis Adei Nimoh 9 votes (0.98%)
6. Boakye K. Agyarko 9 votes (0.98%)
7. Kwabena Agyapong 6 votes (0.65%)
8. Joe Ghartey 4 votes (0.43%)
9. Kwadwo Poku 3 votes (0.33%)
10. Dr. Kofi Konadu Apraku 0 vote (0.00%)
The general flagbearer election of the elephant family is slated for November 4, 2023.
