The Community Water and Sanitation Agency (CWSA) has cut sod for the expansion of a water project worth Gh¢18,078,103 in Tumu, capital of the Sissala East Municipal of the Upper West Region.
The project is aimed at expanding and rehabilitating the water systems in Tumu to continue to supply clean and portable water for the people of Tumu and its environs for the next thirty (30) years and beyond.
The supply of submersible hybrid pumps with solar farm and ancillaries, supply and laying of 14.2km of HDPE transmission pipes, 20No. Stand pipes fitted with smart meter dispensers, office and supply and laying of 28.33k HDPE distribution pipes, construction of 2No. 200m3 high level tanks, supply and installation of package water treatment plant was awarded to Pumptech Limited and Dowin Limited with contract price of Ghc. 8,117,951.73 and Ghc.9, 960,151.30 respectively as project contactors.
On his part, Upper West Regional Director of the Community Water and Sanitation Agency (CWSA) Mr. Emmanuel Ato Quansah, gracing the sod cutting ceremony on Friday December 16, 2022 in Tumu, expressed his happiness that the dream of the chiefs and people of Tumu has come to fruition.
Mr. Ato also pleaded with the people of Tumu to give their maximum support and cooperation to the consultants and the contractors in the course of their work for the work to be completed in the one and half 1.5-year contract duration. He charged the contractors to employ labor from Tumu and its environs in the execution of the contract.

Meanwhile, the consultant and project Contractors, Mr. Osman Sahanoon Kulendi of Pumptech Limited and Sampson Sandon Samari of Dowin Limited explained the criteria for which the projects were selected for sightting. They added that a projection for the population of the people of Tumu in the next 30 years was used to select the capacity of the projects and the places where they were to be sighted and also gave reasons for choosing the project. They assured the people that the project would be completed within one and half years.
In furtherance, Member of Parliament for the Sissaala East, Hon. Chinia Amidu stated that, the existing water system which has been in existence for the past years is approximately 7.3km and does not serve some areas, hence the need for its rehabilitation and expansion stressing that Tumu has seen growth in both population and size and the existing water system has not been able to supply 48 hours of water flow when there is power cut.
Hon. Chinia who doubles as the Deputy Minister for Sanitation and Water Resources, thanked the Upper West Regional Directorate of the Community Water and Sanitation Agency who through the instrumentality of the President H.E. Nanan Addo Dankwah Akufo Ado and his Ministers of Water Resources made the project a reality.

However, Municipal Chief Executive of the Sissala East Municipal Hon. Fuseini Yakubu Batong after expressing his heartfelt gratitude for the development, hinted that, a memorandum of understanding would be signed between the District Assembly and the Tumu Community (Water Board) on the water project.
