Vice President Supports 26 Schools with Sanitary Donation; Heads to Sankana for Kilibi Festival
The forecourt of the Upper West Regional Coordinating Council (RCC) was filled with hope and high energy today as the Vice President visited the region to spearhead a major health and education initiative. In a powerful move to combat school absenteeism and promote student well-being, the Vice President donated a large consignment of sanitary items, including sanitary pads, detergents, and toiletries, to pupils across 26 selected schools in the region.
The event brought together a distinguished assembly of regional leaders, including traditional chiefs, local authorities, MMDCEs, and members of the Upper West MP Caucus. High-profile dignitaries from across the country joined students and teachers from various Catholic, Islamic, and Special Schools to witness the presentation.
Welcoming the delegation, the Upper West Regional Minister, Lawyer Charles Puozuing, emphasised that the donation is far more than a simple gift; it is a critical health intervention. He noted that the project is specifically designed to promote hygiene and ensure that female students no longer face stigmatisation or miss classes during their menstrual cycles.
Addressing the excited crowd, the Vice President delivered an inspiring message of empowerment. She urged the children to see themselves as the future of the nation, stating:
"I want you to be more and much better than me. We realised girls were often missing school because the connection between health and education was broken. We are fixing that by drilling boreholes and inspecting school bathrooms to ensure your dignity. We intend to remove every educational obstacle to ensure you become assets to this country."
She further encouraged the pupils to tackle their studies with grit, particularly in challenging subjects, reminding them that their parents’ investments must yield results. A major highlight of the ceremony was a moving performance by Shuhaimah Alhassan, a student of Wa Senior High School, who captivated the audience with an inspiring poem praising the leadership for investing in girl-child education.
The beneficiary schools, ranging from Primary and Junior High to Senior High and Technical institutions, expressed profound gratitude, noting that the items will significantly improve the daily lives of students on campus.
