Govt not committed to agenda 111 project – Minority
Spread the love

The Minority in Parliament has raised concerns about the delay in the commencement of work on government’s agenda 111 projects in parts of the Ashanti Region.

The Minority says despite the payment of about $1 million to the contractor assigned to the Kwabenakwa district hospital in the Obuasi East municipality, not even a foundation has been laid.

Speaking to journalists during a visit to the proposed site for the Akrofuom district hospital, the Ranking Member on the Health Committee of Parliament, Kwabena Mintah Akandoh says the government is not committed to the successful completion of the projects.

“Agenda 111 was supposed to be completed in 12 months. It was later changed to 18 months. The whole procurement process around it is bizarre. How the contract was even awarded is even questionable.”

“Government is not at all committed to the project. All they are interested in is to set out foundations, so they can push the burden onto governments. That way they can go around saying that they started the projects but subsequent governments did not continue the project.”

The Agenda 111 project is part of a grand vision for Ghana’s healthcare sector by the Akufo-Addo administration.

The project will ensure that 101 districts will be provided with hospitals in addition to 10 selected regional and specialized hospitals.

The government has already set aside an amount of US$100 million as commencement funding for the project.

Each of the hospitals will cost $16.88 million, with $12.88 million being used for the construction of the hospitals and $4 million for medical equipment.
