The Upper West Regional Police Command has launched a man hunt for one Olly an alleged accomplice of Yussif Abubakari for reportedly attacking and robbing two students of Simon Diedong Dombo University of Business and Integrated Development Studies (SDD-UBIDS).
Yussif Abubakari and Olly (now at large) are suspected to have attacked and robbed Abdul Maweya and Abdul Salam Fuazia, both students of SDD-UBIDS on Thursday May 19 2022 at about 1900 hours. The Victims were returning from campus on a savvy motorbike with registration number M-22-UW 2541 wine colour and upon reaching a section of the footpath that links the campus to the main Wa-Sawla road, the suspects purportedly wielding pistol, cutlass and a screwdriver robbed the students and made away with their belongings.
Speaking at a press conference last Wednesday in Wa, the Upper West Regional Police Commander, DCOP Peter Ndekugri says the student were being robbed of their Techno mobile phone, iPhone 7plus, cash sum of GH¢300.00, a lady’s bag containing different ID cards including the above mentioned motorbike.
He continues “through an investigation led by the intelligence enquiry, police had the information that one of the stolen phones was with a phone repairer within the Wa Municipality. Police invited the repairer and after a thorough interrogation the said repairer informed police that one Ibrahim Nurideen, age 26 years and a student of Wa Community Development Vocational Institute brought it to him for sale.
However, surveillance was placed on suspect Ibrahim for his arrest and upon his arrest he in turn mentioned one Yussif Abubakari as the one who sold it to him at a price of GH¢200.00″.
The Commander again mentioned that, other intensive search was mounted by the police for suspect Yussif who was eventually arrested at his hideout in Bamahu a sub of Wa. A search at his hideout uncovered the screwdriver which was used during the attack.
According to DCOP Ndekugri, suspect Yussif led the police to Danko, a suburb of Wa where he and his accomplice had hidden the stolen items. He stressed “the following items have so far been retrieved; a wine coloured savvy motorbike with registration number M-22-UW-2541, the number plate removed from it, an iPhone 7plus and different ID cards”.
However, suspect Yussif mentioned one “Olly” (now at large) as his accomplice and the police are making strenuous effort to get the said accomplice arrested for further investigation.
Meanwhile, suspect Yussif who is currently in police custody has admitted his offense and will be arraigned before court soon.
