Wa Municipal Assembly on Friday May 1, 2020 strictly started enforcing its ‘no weekly market day’ and no noise masks no entry into the market directives as a joint police military operation team was dispatched to the Wa Central Market today which happens to be the market day for the Wa Central market to ensure that, no one travels from anywhere into the market for trading in the name of market day observation and those who were doing the normal days buying and selling were on noise masks.
Prior to this strictly enforcement, the Municipal Assembly on Thursday, April 30, 2020 distributed over 5000 noise masks to the market actors and remind the market women and men that the Assembly was going to see to the strict implementation of the ‘no noise masks no entry into the market’ directive.
Addressing the Media, the Municipal Chief Executive reaffirms the Assembly’s position on these directives indicating that, the measure was taken to contain the spread of the deadly novel coronavirus that has captured the Municipality and the Upper West region in its virus map.
It will be recalled that the Wa Municipal Security Council in a press statement issued and signed on Saturday April 25, 2020 by the Municipal Chief Executive Hon. Issahaku Tahiru Moomin, states that effective May 1, 2020 Wa central market and Piisi weekly market days were to be suspended till further notice adding that “commercial drivers and tricycle Operators are directed to wear face mask and admonish respective passengers to do same. All public and private institutions within the jurisdiction of Wa Municipality are directed to ensure strict compliance with the wearing of face mask at all times in the discharge of their duties either to or from their point of duty”the statement added.
