The Islamic Community ( Ummah) in the Wa East District of the Upper West Region has coronated its first ever District Chief Imam, Alhaji Salifu .A. Yussif, at the forecourt of Bulenga Traditional Council on Sunday March 15, 2020.
Alhaji Salifu A. Yussif, prior to his current elevation was the fourth Chief Imam of Bulenga. After a successful coronation, he was made to offer two rakahs in public as Islamic customs demand and was handed a Quran and a special walking stick as his symbols of authority.The historic event draws people from far and near, including traditional rulers, Islamic clerics and politicians.
On his part, District Chief Executive, Hon. Moses Jotie, appealed to the Islamic fraternity in the district to preach, promote and maintain the peaceful coexistence the district is enjoying.
He calls on all and sundry to accord the newly crowned Chief Imam, the needed support and collaboration to enable him to deliver for the good of the entire district.
The DCE further assured the Zongo community and the English/Arabic Basic schools in the district of government’s support through the Zongo Development Fund.
Meanwhile, Upper West Regional Minister, Dr. Hafiz Bin Salih, who was the guest of honor, called on the newly crowned Chief Imam, to at all times exhibit fairness, honesty, inclusiveness and transparency in executing his mandate.
The Minister also used the occasion and disseminated information about the fast spreading deadly outbreak; coronavirus and the immediate precautionary measures one could adopt for safety and prevention.
He calls on all religious leaders to assist the region and the nation at large with prayers, appealing to all and sundry to cease hands shaking during greetings for the mean time since the outbreak is both contagious and communicable.
