Zoomlion Ghana Limited has kick started disinfecting educational institutions in the Upper West Region ahead of reopening of schools in Ghana as directed by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.
Addressing the media during the exercise on Thursday January 7, 2021, Upper West Regional Manager of Zoomlion Ghana Limited Mr. Emmanuel Volsuuri indicated that, Zoomlion has been directed to disinfect all educational facilities as a measure of containing the spread of the deadly novel coronavirus as students return to school this month.
“The exercise that is ongoing is a disinfection of all educational facilities in the Upper West Region and for that matter the whole country. Last week the President announced that all educational institutions were going to reopen within this month and various timelines were given for the various institutions, for that reason Zoomlion has been directed to disinfect all educational facilities and that include the Basic Schools, Senior High schools and the Tertiary institutions” Mr. Volsuuri noted.
He said 739 educational facilities in the region are going to be disinfected by 14th of January 2021 stating that, the educational institutions comprise 5 tertiary institutions, 687 basic and 47 senior high/vocational schools. Mr. Volsuuri further noted that the exercise is crucial considering the upsurge of the COVID-19 in other countries accenting that the virus is making a second strike hence the need to protect the schools.
Meanwhile, Surveyor Abu Fatawu, Estate Manager of the Wa Technical University expressed his gratitude to the government and Zoomlion Ghana Limited for the gesture taken adding that the disinfection among other measures implemented by the Wa Technical University will help contain the spread of the COVID-19.
However, Ghana recently recorded 133 new positive cases of COVID-19 bringing the total number of confirmed cases of the virus to 55,461 with 54,164 recoveries as well as 336 fatalities recorded. The current active cases of COVID-19 in Ghana is pegged at 961.
