The Upper West Regional Secretary of the ruling New Patriotic party, Mr. Isaac Alitu has endorsed the parliamentary candidature of some incumbent Members of Parliament under the ticket of the NPP that according to him will be joining the current President, H.E Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo at the seat of government after the 2020 general elections.
Charging some youth of the party in the Wa Central Constituency at their end of year get together party, organised by the youth secretariat of the Wa Central constituency, the secretary on Monday January 6, 2020 said, the youth must put forces together to get the business mogul Hajia Humu Awudu voted for as the MP for Wa Central Constituency.
He was optimistic and stating without missing words that, his own MP Hon. Godfred Bayong Tangu will be returning to parliament and some other MPs including Anthony Abaifah Karbo as well as the MP for Nandom constituency, also the Interior Minister, Hon. Ambrose Dery.
“This year whether they like or not Nana Akufo-Addo will win again, 6th January next year by this time we will be on our way going to Accra for swearing in, Hajjia will lead you, she will convey you with buses as your MP and my own MP, the Musician, the man who likes laughing, Hon. Godfred Bayong Tangu will also be going, Ambrose will follow, Karbo will also be part, including Derigubaa, followed by Dan, Botaah, Sanda and the others, we are going for all the seats, nothing will save them” he noted.
The Secretary open endorsement has made it seems like a day dream, in the minds of some other people within the party who have harbored their intentions of contesting the sitting MPs in their upcoming parliamentary primaries scheduled for April. Many are of the believe that, the party is skewing plans to get the sitting MPs go unopposed and vowed to resist any attempt of the party to get the incumbent MPs go through without winning the tickets through primaries.
A party stalwart who spoke to www.myradiowaa.com under condition of anonymity says, the party will not be fair to suppress the intentions of other functionaries who planned to contest for the parliamentary candidature should the party hierarchy finally land on the decision of letting the MPs go unopposed.
“Some of our contestants have incurred a lot of cost in printing posters and meeting delegates far back 2019, today if the party secretary in the region could openly say that sitting MPs as he mentioned are going to join the president at the seat of government after the 2020 general elections, it means there is something fishy and that wouldn’t be fair at all” he fumed.
However, Mr. Alitu, used the occasion to admonish party folks not to make a mistake of voting against the party come 2020 general elections, because some of their expectations are not yet met, indicating that, the NDC made similar mistakes and are still languishing in opposition.
“There are a lot of us who said, we have not gotten anything after the party came to power, ask the NDC, this was what they were saying, when the party lost the elections, they only know the kind of pain they are going through, they now realized that, being in power whiles fighting each other is far better than being in opposition, so let’s not misuse this chance we are having now”.
