The Wa Municipal Security Council (MUSEC) in consultation with the Chiefs and Elders of the Waala Traditional Council and other stakeholders suspended the observation of weekly market days in the Municipality to curtail the spread of COVID-19.
In a press statement issued and signed on Saturday April 25, 2020 by the Municipal Chief Executive Hon. Issahaku Tahiru Moomin, states that effective May 1, 2020 Wa central market and Piisi weekly market days are suspended till further notice.
The statement further directed all market actors including traders, restaurant operators, wayside food vendors, hawkers and all business operators within the Municipality effective Saturday, April 25, 2020 to must be in noise mask during transaction of business activities, adding that, no one will be allowed into the market without wearing noise mask.
“Commercial drivers and tricycle Operators are directed to wear face mask and admonish respective passengers to do same. All public and private institutions within the jurisdiction of Wa Municipality are directed to ensure strict compliance with the wearing of face mask at all times in the discharge of their duties either to or from their point of duty”the statement added.
