The Overlord of the Waala Traditional Area, Naa Fuseini Seidu Pelpou IV in consultation with the Office of the Upper West Regional Chief Imam and Yari Naa suspended the observation of Jummah prayers, funeral rites as well as daily prayers in congregation over the out break of coronavirus.
“One day, three days, one week, forty days observation (Ansuma) and funerals in the Waala Traditional Area must be on hold indefinitely. Burials may be performed with not more than 25 people in attendance. All public religious/spiritual programmes including daily prayers, Jummah prayers, weddings and all such gatherings are suspended for the next four weeks”. The statement noted.
In a press release jointly issued and signed by the offices of the Overlord of the Waala Traditional Kingdom, Regional Chief Imam and Yari Naa advised Chiefs and people of the Waala traditional area not to travel unless deem necessary. The released also directed market and trading centres to adhere to the guidelines issued by the Ministry of health and the World Health Organisation.
The council further cancelled all engagements as well as appointments and visits to the various palaces unless extremely necessary.
“Our various markets and trading centres should adhere to the strictest of hygiene and minimize contacts with people and or animals. The media in the Waala Traditional Area are advised to be extremely cautious in their reportage and not cause unnecessary fear and panic”.
Meanwhile, the media in the region has been advised to be circumspect in their reportage in order not to cause fear and panic among the good people of the Upper West Region.
