The Department of Children in collaboration with Community Development Alliance (CDA-Ghana), a non-governmental agency have on Friday August 31, 2018 celebrated the National Children’s day in Charia in the Wa Municipal of the Upper West Region. The theme for this year’s celebration was dubbed “leave no child behind in Ghana’s development”.

Speaking during the occasion, the Wa Municipal Chief Executive, Hon. Alhaj Issahaku Tahir Moomin has admonished children to refrain from activities that can cause damage to their future. He added that, the current NPP administration has children in its heart noting that, a lot of interventions have been taken to ensure that children are not left out. He stressed that, the NPP government introduced the School feeding program in order to ensure that, children are well fed while in school and has indicated that, the Wa Municipal alone has enrolled 33,000 pupils on to the program.
“School feeding program was introduced to ensure that children do not go back to the house because of hunger, currently, the Wa municipal has enrolled over 33,000 children on to the program” he noted.

On her part, the Gender and Child protection officer of CDA, Ms. Mercy Dakogri speaking to Journalist during the program, noted that, they want to use the occasion to encourage children to study hard and also see how they will collaborate with other stakeholders in supporting brilliant but needy children in society. She indicated that, she was astonished to hear from some of the children sharing their bitterness in getting books, sanitary pads and some basic needs for themselves.
However, Ms. Mercy also called on children not to feel that all is lost because their parents cannot provide their needs, encouraging them to appreciate their parent’s efforts. She again charged parents to do their best in providing their wards with at least basic needs adding that, when this is done, the child be motivated to move on in life without difficulties.
