Some Burkina Faso nationals numbering about twenty (20) have been apprehended by Operation Conquest Fist, a joint security team during a patrol after an Intel was picked up. The foreigners were arrested at the Tumo-Dakpla junction in the Lawra Municipality of the Upper West Region Wednesday morning April 15, 2020.
According to the Public Affairs Officer of the Ghana Immigration Service, ASI Ibn Yussif Duranah Abdul-Mumuni Seidu, the foreigners were sent to the Lawra Municipal hospital for health screening and were repatriated through the same routes they used in sneaking into the country.
He added that, a preliminary investigation conducted on them revealed that they were traveling to Suyani and Brekum in the Bono region to search for greener pastures.
“At the early hours of today, 15/04/2020, twenty Burkinabes were busted at Tumo – Dakpla junction in the Lawra Municipality en route Wa.They are made up of 17 male adults, 1 female adult and 2 children.
They were heading to Sunyani and Brekum in Bono Region to search for greener pastures. They were ceased at about 0655HRS today 15/04/20 by Operation Conquest Fist (OPF), a joint operation team on patrols following an intel.They were taking to the Lawra Municipal health facility for health screening and afterwards repatriated through their various points of entry into Ghana” Ibn Yussif stated.
Security comprising Immigration officers, military and Police intensified surveillance at the borders after Ghana’s government announced a complete closure of the country’s borders in its bid to contain the deadly novel coronavirus devouring thousands of people across the world of which Ghana has so far recorded 636 cases with 17 recovery and 8 deaths.
