Seventeen(17) Burkinabes have been arrested by security personnel at the Babile inland checkpoint at about 0630HRS Saturday evening in a bus with registration number AS 5603-C heading towards the Upper West Regional capital Wa.
According to the Lawra Municipal Commander of the Ghana Immigration Service, Assistant Superintendent of Immigration (ASI) Kingsford Agyakumhene, the Burkinabes were fetched out after the personnel did a thorough check in the bus they boarded. He added that, plans are far advanced to repatriate them back to Burkina Faso by Sunday.
The culprits include six females and eleven males. Their ages ranged between twenty (20) to forty (40)
Meanwhile, as part of strategic efforts to prevent people from entry and exit of the territorial borders of Ghana, a joint Immigration and military operation team mounted a search within the banks of the black Volta river bordering Ghana and Burkina Faso on the 4th day of April 2020. After a successful operation, some persons who were spotted entering Ghana through the black Volta river were ordered to return without hesitation.
The team also pounced on some suspected persons who delved into the water and swimed across the Burkina Faso side leaving exhibits such as a single bar riffle, a machete, two AA amor cartridges, a pack of cigarettes as well as a catapult.The items have been taken by the officers to be sent to the appropriate quarters.
