Radio Waa, a private commercial media outlet transmitting on 92.1 megahertz, has on Saturday launched a new programme for kids dubbed *”My Generation”*. The manager of the station, Issaka Abubakar, in his welcome address said My Generation in addition to getting children of the region informed about events and happenings within their schools and communities “seeks to inculcate the habit of listening and learning in children.”
The event which took place at the forecourt of the station with massive attendance also saw the launch of a website and a Public Address Equipment (PAE) meant for hiring. The website (www.myradiowaa.com) according to Mr. Issaka will “promote and project the Upper West Region to the rest of the world”. Touching on the PAE named ‘92.1 Sounds’, he said Radio Waa underscored the need for the region to have a state of the art sound system to augment the needs of the region for public events. The manager further indicated that *92.1 Sounds* “will help provide quality sound for prestigious events and programmes across the region and beyond”.
Furthering his speech, the young zealous manager indicated that the award winning radio station in the region has a mission to set professional standards for modern broadcasting. This he said is being achieved by establishing a “progressive agenda” to develop the locality where the Radio is located and the nation at large. He intimated that, local radio must be relevant to the every day issues of the surrounding communities, and at the same time create avenues for local opinions. Demand for accountability and transparency from leadership is another responsibility that must not be overlooked by local radio, he added.
