The Upper West Regional Minister, Hon. Dr. Hafiz Bin Salih has revealed that security at the boarders within the Upper West Region is very tight as the men and women in uniform are very vigilant in ensuring that foreigners do not get their way into the region.
“Our security operatives at the boarders are very vigilant, yesterday we prevented about eight people who tried passing through unapproved routes to the region from Burkina Faso. Today Burkinabes who were also coming to trade at Gbwollu market were prevented, our security men and women at the boarders are hard working and very vigilant. We only allow people who are coming in with food but then they have to go through all the testing and laid down practices before they get entry”. He stated.
Speaking on Radio Waa’s Yelkaabahe programme today March 24, 2020, Hon. Hafiz called on the people of the Upper West Region to adhere to all the directives and was convinced that if the directives are put into place, the novel coronavirus will leave before its time.
“If we adhere to all the directives within three to four weeks all these shall come to pass. Let’s don’t prove stubborn so that God Himself will pull our ears”.
Dr. Hafiz reiterated the ban on the performance of funeral rites, praying in congregation, naming and wedding ceremonies indicating that, anyone who wants to prove recalcitrant will not be spared by the security agencies.
“We will not allow funeral rites especially ‘Ansuma’ (good morning) and all related activities. Naming ceremonies, weddings are still banned “.
The Minister stated that plans are in advance to ensure that drivers at the various lorry stations put in place hand washing facilities and also ensure that passengers wear face masks and apply hand sanitizers before embarking on a journey.
” We will let the drivers ensure that anyone who comes to enter a bus fist wash his hands, apply sanitizer and wear face mask. If we adhere to these practices God will surely help us”.
He expressed gratitude to Chiefs, traditional rulers as well as Christian and Islamic scholars for helping the task force in implementing the directives issued by the President H.E Nana Addo Dankwa Akufp-Addo and re-emphasized by the leadership of the region.
However, the deadly novel coronavirus that is devouring the entire world has gotten 52 cases in Ghana confirmed with 2 deaths as of Tuesday afternoon.Let’s keep to hand washing and apply sanitizers regularly to prevent wide spread of the deadly virus.
