Network for Young Women Empowerment (NYWE) with support from Plan International Ghana has oriented and sensitised young girls/women on menstrual hygiene management, women in leadership and Covid-19. The three in one pack program was organised at the forecourt of Busa Primary School under the theme “Gift a Girl Child a Pad, Save Her Dignity”.
Chairperson for NYWE, Ida T. Nakar in her address stated that, the program was meant to educate young women who are approaching womanhood how to manage their hygiene while in their period. She further indicated that, all the participants were given face marks and two sanitary pads each. The over sixty participants were met separately to observe social distances, hand washing was regularly practiced.
District Development Coordinator with Plan International Ghana, Upper West Program Unit, Iddris Kamaldeen, noted that Plan international is supporting and will continue to support the NYWE to reach out to about 400 young women directly in the Wa Municipal starting with Busa community.
He added that, Plan International is supporting three youth group to do such education across the Region and these groups he said include NYWE, the Upper West Youth Parliament and Youth Advisory Group.
On her part, Nisira Iddiris, one of the beneficiaries opined that, the leadership training aspects can turn things around, as she is more courageous in her leadership dream towards the future. She added that, she never knew there is something like a reusable pad if not for this training.
Meanwhile, Assembly Member for Busa electoral area, Hon Mwiniyalle Mahama noted that, the three in one package (Covid 19, menstrual hygiene and leadership training) for young women in Busa was very essential to female development in the community and expressed his gratitude to the group for the gesture taken.
Network for Young Women Empowerment (NYWE) was born by Plan International Ghana and the National Youth Authority, it is made up of young women from both the formal and informal sector with the aim of empowering young women.
