The 2020 Presidential Candidate for the NDC, John Dramani Mahama says his next government would focus on redefining agriculture in the country. He said this would begin with the renaming of the Ministry of Food and Agriculture to the Ministry of Food and Agribusiness.
According to the former President, agriculture across the globe has transitioned from being a way of life to a profitable business venture.
Mr Mahama said it is essential that agriculture is repositioned to become more scientific and mechanised. He said this is the only way to make the trade more profitable and encourage more youth into the area. The Former President said before the NDC left office, he commissioned the first Farmer Service Centre in Gwollu in the Sissala West District. Mr Mahama said the aim of the Service Centre was to serve as a Mechanisation Centre. The Centre would then go on to provide mechanization and extensions services to the host MMDAs. Mr Mahama said should he be voted into power, he will intensify the drive to agricultural mechanization.
The former president said this while speaking with the chiefs and people of the Bulenga Traditional Area as part of his 4 day tour of the Upper West Region.
Responding to appeals from the Chief of Bulenga Traditional Area, Naa Seidu Abdulai Nalugumo, the Former President, John Dramani Mahama said his next government would continue with the NDC’s plan to decentralize development. He said the request to make the Bulenga Area the capital of the proposed Was South District would be granted. He admitted that this will allow for a rapid development of the area.
