As part of measures in fighting the deadly novel coronavirus that is eating up the world, the Wa Municipal Assembly in the Upper West Region on Thursday supported the Municipal Health Directorate with an amount of GHC10,000.00 and Personal Protective Equipment as its widows mite to the fight.

Municipal Chief Executive of the Wa Municipal Assembly, Hon. Alhaj Issahaku Tahiru Moomin, indicatd that the health directorate has been very active in the fight and the Assembly thought wise to extend a helping hand to them to help boost the various health facilities in the Municipality.

“The Wa Municipality is experiencing our share of the pandemic, the Wa Municipal Public Health Emergency team chaired by myself assisted by the Municipal Director of health services took several steps in our effort in curbing the pandemic and controlling it within the Municipality. The Municipal health Directorate has taken proactive steps in support of decisions that we have taken  as a management committee. The Municipal Assembly on behalf of the government felt that there is the need  for us to support the team so that they will be able to do much more than they are doing, so the feeling is that with the dwindling resources at their disposal, but they have been able to do much considerably and we feel that if we extend  our widows mite to them, at least they will be able to perform a lot of wonders within the Municipality”.

He added that, the Assembly has placed a very good surveillance team at the main entry point to the Municipality to help screen people who are coming into the Municipality from other regions. He said that after a case was recorded in the region, there has been a stronger collaboration between the Assembly and the health directorate in fighting the spread of the pandemic.

“Wa Municipal for that matter the whole region is under control for the fact that the entry point of the region, there is a well surveillance team around the entry point and that is the reason why many of the suspected cases are being managed for now. They identified them and they are being under management” he stated.

Meanwhile, Wa Municipal Health Director, Dr. Pascal Kingsley Mwini expressed his gratitude to the municipal Assembly indicating that, the donation came at the right time as they have some front-liners who are doing contact tracing with the single case recorded earlier. He promised the Assembly that the items given them will be put into judicious use.
