The maiden edition of the Upper West Startup Summit has been launched at Wa in the Upper West Region. The summit is the brainchild of Yison Tech Hub; a technology and innovation hub in partnership with Ghana tech lab, Master Card foundation and the World Bank. The Summit was attended by various stakeholders in the entrepreneurship, academia, the media along with some Civil Society Groups across the region.
The CEO of Yison Tech Hub, Mr Issahaque M. Serekperanaa who spoke to Radio Waa News on the sideline of the Summit explained program is aimed at creating jobs for the youth across all sectors. Mr Serekperanaa said the jobs that are to be created are ones that will be technologically focused. The summit was on the theme “Web technology and its potential in the Upper West entrepreneurial ecosystem to accelerate the creation of jobs”.
30 participants comprising 20 females and 10 males were selected after an 8 weeks rigorous training program in technology and web development. The participants were given the opportunity to pitch their business ideas after the training before a panel of judges. Three winners were adjudged on the day. The three will participate in a 16 weeks incubation period.
At the end of the pitching process, the first winner was a business named CONFAGRO. Operators of the CONFARGO are to create a website to facilitate the buying and selling of fresh farm produce. CONFARGO will then serve as an intermediary.
POSANZY DEALS emerged as 1 runner ups. POSANZY DEALS seeks to provide healthy, hygienic and nutritional meat products to busy and health conscious customers, individual’s kitchens, restaurants and food vendors outside the Upper West Region. The third winner LAF FARMS is a poultry production venture seeking to serve the Upper West region with fresh eggs daily.
