Ghana Black Stars & Legon Cities goalkeepers’ coach, Issah Najahu Laskaya, has appealed for support for the newly appointed leadership of the senior national side; Black Stars of Ghana.
Earlier this week, coach Charles Kwablan Akonnor maintained Swansea’s talisman Adrew Ayew Morgan as captain of the Black Stars. Atletico Madrid’s midfield jewel Thomas Teye Partey and goalkeeper Richard Ofori were handpicked as deputies.
The move is one that sharply divided the opinions of fans. A section of fans, have theorised that Black Stars Coach, C.K Akonnor’s decision to snub the nation’s all-time top scorer Dr. Asamoah Gyan was an indirect attempt to oust him from the Black Stars set up.
However, Najahu Laskaya has vehemently opposed that assertion from some fans. He believes that the preoccupation of a nation should be geared twords rallying unflinching support for the new leadership led by Ayew. Mr. Laskaya opined that supporting the new leaders of the team could mean an end to Ghana’s hellish trophy drought. This he said would serve the team better than creating divisions from the appointment.
” I think we’ve to learn as a Nation, who merited to lead the team mustn’t be our taking point. ” he told Radio Waa Sports Panenka Show
“Our taking point should be based on how to canvas support for the new crop of captains in order of ending our unwanted trophy drought” he added.
“I don’t think the appointment was done to intentionally retire Asamoah Gyan, he still has a lot to offer the National team”.
The senior national team is penciled to play the champions of Africa Algeria in a friendly tussle on October 9, 2020.
