As part of measures and gestures to supporting the fight of the novel coronavirus in Ghana, Former President John Dramani Mahama supported Ridge Hospital, one of the health facilities handling cases of COVID 19 with hundred sets of Personal Protective Equipment to help health staff handling victims.
Prez Mahama expressed his gratitude to the frontline health workers for their sacrifices to the nation and was optimistic that the items donated will help protect the medical staff.
“We all, Ghana appreciates the work you are doing. You are the frontline defence of the population against the disease and we must all support you to be able to protect us” Prez Mahama.
The items donated include 100 full sets of PPE, 100 gum boots, 120 doctors scrubs, 50 patients gowns, 30 theatre gowns and 400 packs of bottled drinking water.
Meanwhile, Medical Director at the Ridge Hospital, Dr. Emmanuel Srofenyoh, thanked the former President and the NDC, indicating that the items presented “are really the things that we have been lacking, particularly the PPE, surgical face masks, coveralls, and the items that are really needed”.
“The other day I was describing a situation that when the staff want to gown and attend to a patient, it takes up to about 20 to 30 minutes to complete the gowning. And the items that are used after one usage, you have to discard all of them, and come in for a fresh one. It is for this reason that the demand is so high” Dr. Emmanuel stated.
The Ex-President’s gesture came after staff of the facility that is virtually managing the pandemic expressed worry over the lack of PPEs and the dangers they were exposed to.
However, the country has recorded 152 confirmed cases of novel coronavirus with 5 deaths and 2 recovery. 11 of the confirmed cases were announced on Sunday afternoon after some 10 people who were under mandatory quarantined at Tamale tested positive and the eleventh case was recorded in Kumasi.
Let us continue to embrace the laid down protocols by regularly washing our hands, using hand sanitizers, observe social distancing and report to the necessary authorities any form of suspected case of COVID 19. Stay at home and be free from contracting the virus.
