Deputy Minister in charge of Information, Pius Enam Hadzide has said that election is about counting heads and not cutting heads. Mr Hadzide stated that government will not tolerate acts violence in the upcoming December polls.
He said the President of the Republic in his quest to nipin the political violence in the bud, saw to the passage of the Vigilantism Bill into law. The Deputy Minister of Information stresses that persons and groups found perpetuating acts of violence dealth with accordingly.
Mr. Hadzide made the comment at the Upper West Regional House of Chiefs in Wa during a sensitization workshop organised for traditional rulers on COVID-19. He urged political parties to eschew ethnocentric comments and posturing that have the potential of plunging the country into chaos.
“We must remember that elections are about counting heads and not cutting heads. We must therefore eschew any ethnocentric tendencies that have the potential to divide us. Government remains committed to the maintenance of peace, law and order that’s why H.E the President has moved to ensure the passage of the Vigilantism and related offences act 2019 which criminalizes vigilante and related activities and imposes a prison term of not less than ten years and not more than fifthteen years”.
He called on all political parties to observe the law and help the law enforcement agencies and the election management body to ensure peace before during and after the December 7 polls.
Touching on measures instituted by the Akufo-Addo led NPP administration in containing the COVID-19, Mr Hadzide said government had gotten international recognition due to the proactive measures it took during the pandemic. Mr Hadzide said the measures led to the reduction in positive cases of coronavirus and a rise in case recovery.
He urged Ghanaians to maintain Nana Addo’s government adding that “you do not change a winning team and you do not change a general in the middle of a war especially so when he is consistently winning battles. Yes Ghana is at war and the enemy is COVID-19. The enemy is illiteracy; the enemy was dumsor. We have defeated Dumsor and our lights are on now. We are defeating illiteracy by the introduction of Free SHS and we are defeating COVID-19”.
