Inspector General of the Ghana Police Service Mr. James Oppong Boanuh has paid a one day official working visit to the Upper West regional command of the Ghana Police Services to ascertain the preparedness of the police in the region ahead of December 7, 2020 polls.
Addressing the media at the Wa Jubilee park after a shot demonstration of the police on how to respond to suspected election related criminal activities and ravaging demonstrators before during and after the general elections, Mr. Boanuh revealed to the media his satisfaction of the performance of the uniform men and women in the region adding that, they are capable of containing election related violence in the region.
“With respect to what I have seen here I am very confident that on the D-day they will be able to police the elections properly”Mr. Boanuh noted.
He indicated that, challenges confronting the police service in the region will be ironed out after meeting with the police hierarchy in the Upper West Region. Mr. Boanuh mentioned that, police access to information from the public in fighting crime is a bigger challenge hindering the combating of crime urging the general public to always endeavour to volunteer information to the police to help nip in the bud acts of criminality.
The IGP as part of his visit to the region paid a courtesy call on the overlord of the Waala traditional kingdom and the office of the regional Minister. He later had an indoor durbar with the officers of the Upper West Regional police command.
