Dr. Hilla Liman Technical University in Wa in the Upper West Region has inducted its first Vice Chancellor, Professor Elias N.K Sowley after the then Wa Polytechnic got upgraded into a Technician University in April 2020.
Addressing the gathering at the forecourt of the University’s ultra-mordern library on May 7, 2022, Governing Council Chairman of the University, Chief Suleman Nabila urged the V.C to work hard and ensure that the university runs on a peaceful environment preaching for a sense of togetherness for the progress of the University community, the region and the nation at large.

He also called on lecturers, students and management of the University to rally their support behind the newly outdoored VC in order for the young University to be able to execute its mandate.
Meanwhile, the newly inducted Vice Chancellor of the first Technical University in the Upper West Region, Professor Elias N.K Sowley shortly after his investiture, indicated his commitment of improving upon the infrastructural development of the University, increase enrollment as well ensuring that more quality programmes are added on to the existing ones.
“I will work closely with the management team and the Governing Council to secure some support from Government and donor agencies for the improvement and provisions of additional infrastructure such as halls or residences, faculties, workshops and sporting facilities. The water system will also be improved by adding to the already existing boreholes” he stressed.

Professor Elias again indicated his intention of selling out the University to the international world by bringing in international linkages.
“I will also like to increase the visibility of the institution through international linkages and internationalization” he adds.
He urged students, Alumni, lecturers and stakeholders of the University to support him market the University to the outside world stressing that students should be good ambassadors of the University.

The VC hinted that, the University will be starting degree programmes in the next academic year appealing to citizens of the region especially students to patronize such degree programmes when finally introduced.
However, the University holds its 3rd congregation shortly after the Vice Chancellors’ induction ceremony which saw 311 students successfully graduated and were awarded with HND and DBS certificates.

The ceremony brought together dignitaries including Vice Chancellors (VC) of sister Technical Universities across the country as well as VCs of other Universities, convocation including government appointees and other partners of the University.
The occasion was graced amidst cultural dancing and display as well as singing and praises by the St. Benedict’s Choir of Wa.
