The Member of Parliament for the Daffiama Bussie Issa constituency, Hon. Sabastian Sandaare has launched a special Skill Development Initiative that will see to the development of needy people to acquire skills in hair dressing, tailoring and other forms of craftsmanship that will end such people a living.
Addressing the gathered audience, the MP said, he wants to get those people who could not go to school something by way of training them on some skills that will get them moving in life without depending on people for living.
“The initiative is for the MP to provide assistance to needy girls and boys who want to learn some skills like sewing, dress making, hair dressing and other skills that they cannot acquire at the formal schools, vocational, technical schools or at poly or the universities but at the community level they also want to acquire some skills. So I have decided to launch the initiative with the little resources that I have as the MP for Daffiama Bussie Issah, I will help them acquire some of the tools, if it is for sewing I will get the sewing machine, if it is hair dressing, we help them get their tools and what they need to learn the skills” Hon. Sandaare stated.
He revealed that eight centres have been identified in the constituency with eight trainers that will see to the implementation of the initiative for a start, adding that every constituent stand the chance of benefiting once the person has an intention of learning a trade or skill.
“We have identified their mentors or teachers who will take them through for the whole period, if it is two years you will take, you go through the two year period if it is three years, you go through the three year period so that at the end of the day you will acquire skills for yourself and also help the community to grow” he added.
He said they are starting with sewing for which they have recruited people to train the registered persons whiles they keep on adding the other skills.
The Member of Parliament during the launch presented 10 sewing machines and five hair dryers to some of the the beneficiaries and further noted that his outfit will help service the fees that will be charged by the trainers if some of the beneficiaries are unable to afford.
Hon. Sandaare also stated emphatically that, initiatives like this will be free if the NDC under the leadership of John Dramani Mahama comes into power after the 2020 general elections with him as the MP for Daffiama Bussie Issa constituency. He said it will be good for whoever that takes over from him when he exits as MP to continue with the initiative.
