President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has restricted movement of people in Greater Accra and Asante Regions for the next fourteen days effective 1:00am Monday 30th March, 2020.
He stated that anyone who goes out must do so for the purpose of acquiring a necessity either than that no one shall be allowed to go out. Members of the Executives, Legislators, Judiciary are however exempted from the restriction and those who work in the food value chain.
President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo described Accra, Kumasi and Kasoa as hot spots of coronavirus.
The president also restricted unnecessary movement of vehicles in the restricted areas adding that, two people shall not be seen on a motorbike and vehicles are not also allowed to move unless deemed necessary.
He however noted that, the measures announced are subject to review stressing that the decision will affect many but it was necessary for the combat of the deadly novel coronavirus.
President Nana Addo reiterated the ban on social gatherings adding that anyone who defies these directives will have the security to contend with.
He said the front line of fighting coronavirus are the front doors and anyone who crosses it will get his family contracted. The president made this statement during his Fourth Nation’s Address on COVID 19 on Friday night.
He announced a coronavirus fund that will be manned by board of trustees with Her ladyship Gloria Akufo as one of the trustees. He donated his three months salary (April, May, June) to the fund. He also called on Ghanaians to help contribute their quota to the fund for the fight against coronavirus.
However, the country has since recorded 137 confirmed cases with 4 deaths and 2 recovery. The lastest region to have confirmed a case was Upper West Region which had a 42 year old Ghanaian who returned form UK, Spain through Egypt and back to Wa from Accra through a public transport. This was made known on Friday by the Upper West Regional Minister, Hon. Hafiz Bin Salih in Wa.
