President of the Republic H.E Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has ordered the closure of all public and private schools ranging from Tertiary to Basic School levels over the incidences of coronavirus that has found its way into the country. The closure of the schools takes effect Monday 16, 2020.
“All Universities, Senior High Schools and basic schools, public and private schools will be closed Monday 16th of March, 2020 till further notice”.
He directed the Ministry of Education and the Information Ministry to implement distance education programmes in order to provide room for students to study from afar.
” The Ministry of Education in collaboration of the ministry of information has been tasked to roll out distance learning programmes”.
The president indicated that WASSCE as well as BECE students will be allowed to sit for their studies.
“BECE and WASSCE candidates will be allowed to continue to prepare for their examination”.
H.E Nana Addo further baned all public gatherings at Churches and Mosques adding that the maximum number of people who can sit for a gathering when it becomes critical should not exceed 25.
He again directed restaurants and bars as well as public canteens and chop bars to keep proper hand washing facilities coupled with sanitizers for their customers.
These orders came to light during a short address he delivered on the state of the nation with regards to the invasion of the deadly coronavirus of which 6 cases have been confirmed positive in Ghana as at Sunday’s afternoon.
