The Business School of the University for Development Studies, Wa Campus (now UBIDS) celebrated its outstanding representatives at the just ended Tertiary Business Sense Challenge organised by Graphic communications after the University was able to beat down one of the oldest University, University of Education Winneba in the contest.
Speaking to the media, Dr. Yakubu Awudu Asare, Dean of the Business School indicated that, the university might lack the needed infrastructure but was very proud to note that lecturers at the school churn out quality which has been justified by the contest. He charged students to study hard and come out with good classes rather than them channeling their efforts in discussing the lack of infrastructure and other negative issues about the school.
“We should not just consider the fact that we are not having the right infrastructure, we don’t have the right resources, human resource is the critical component in every academic institution, they should be rest assured and study hard and have the hope that despite the fact that the lecture rooms are not adequate, infrastructure is not adequate, they are getting the best training possible so that they can meet the standard anywhere at anytime”.
Dr. Awudu who was excited with the performance of his students assured the school that, they are ever ready to defend the success chalked. He further called on students who are studying Diploma courses at the University never to feel demoralized adding that, the overall adjudged best contestant in the entire competition was also from UDS, Wa campus who started from diploma up to level 300. He was so proud that, the lecturers efforts were never in vain but yielded the needed results and he seizes the opportunity and congratulated the trainers and Lecturers who contributed towards the success.
The Dean indicated that they are packages for the four contestants and their trainers adding that, the four will be supported to study their Masters and PHD so that they can join the University and serve as future academics.
“We will give them appearance fees of GHC200.00 each including the trainers and at each stage they reach, it will double, that also serves as motivation and we are also using this opportunity to appeal to everybody, all stakeholders to come on board so that these students that have distinguished themselves, they can get the best sponsorship package for them to pursue their Masters and possible PHD so that they can join as academics because we think that these are the people we can train and build as the future academics of the school especially the business school”.
Meanwhile, the four students of the UDS who sat on behalf of the school for the contest expressed their gratitude to management and staff of the school for their support and also urged their colleagues to put into trash bin, the negative comments they spew out and concentrate on their studies. They saw this success as something they never knew they could get considering the magnitude of their opposing schools yet with hard work and determination, they bagged home the ultimate best award.
However, organisers of the contest, Graphic Communications and its sponsors gave the contestants cash prizes, HP laptops, insurance cover worth GHC20,000 each among others as take home for emerging as the ultimate best in the contest.
