President of the Republic of Ghana Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo Addo has said six new hospitals will be constructed in the Upper West Region within the space of 12 months.
According the president, work on the hospitals at Wa East, Wa West, Daffiama Bussia Issa, Lambussie and Sisaala West will begin soon after the a sod cutting ceremony in November later this year.
The move is to help expand access to health care across the region and the country as a whole under the Agenda 111.
Addressing Traditional Rulers at the Upper West Regional House of Chiefs, as part of his two day working visit to the Region, the president said the records of chiefs will be digitized.
The President further noted that government in collaboration with the National House of Chiefs in July 2020 brought into being the Regional houses Chiefs Regulation Bill into law; LI 2409. The L.I is to aid the formation of Houses of Chiefs in the newly created Regions.
Nana Addo implored the Regional House of Chiefs to eschew any form of disagreement that may bring about chieftency disputes that will threaten the peace of the country.
Meanwhile immediate President of the Regional House of Chiefs, Kouro Richard Babini Kanton appealed to the president to prioritise the construction of the Han – Tumu road, Wa – Dorimo – Wechieu road and other critical roads in the Upper West Region as part of the year of roads.
