The National Disaster Management Organization (NODMO)  of the Daffiama Bussia Issa(DBI) District has inaugurated a fourteen member District Disaster Management Committee (NADMO .The ceremony took place at the DBI assembly hall.

 

Delivering his inaugural speech, District Chief Executive, Hon Nadi Imoro Sanda said the District Disaster Management Committee (DDMC) will serve as lime light for the the implementation of strategies aimed at mitigating and taking dicision to deal with the challenges arising out of disaster situation. The Chief Executive admonished  the committee members to demonstrate commitment to ensure that sound disaster prevention and management strategies to reduce the occurrence of disaster and to minimize the impact of disaster when it occurs. He further appeal to members of the committee to attend the functions and meetings of the committee with urgency so that the district can become a better place for all. Hon Nadi added that, ” you are all professionals in your various fields,does why you are all here to bring your expertise to either prevent disaster or manage it better when it occurs”.

On his part, the District Director of NADMO Kuubini David said the DDMC is very vital to the success of NADMO and since his absorption of office, he made frantic effort to set up this committee.  “As Chairman of the committee, the District Chief Executive can testify to how I have been on his nerves to inaugurate this committee” he asserted.

A Disaster management committee as sanctioned by section twenty-six (26) of the National Disaster Management Organization Bill, 2015, shall include; The District Chief Executive as Chairperson, the District Director of NADMO as Secretary,the Chairperson of the District Platform for Disaster Risk Reduction and Climate change Risk Management, the Member of Parliament, District Director of health.

Other members of the disaster management committee include the  representative of the Garrison commander of Ghana Armed forces, the police Commender, Fire officer, information officer, Director of Education, Environmental officer,planning officer and the Social walfare officer of the District. The Assembly Member of the affected electotal area shall be a member of the District Disaster Management Committee for the duration of the disaster.

The NADMO bill, 2015 section 26 (5) empower the committee members to help in the execution of its mandate. The members of the committee other than an ex-officio member shall hold office for the period determined by NADMO council.The functions of the District disaster management committee shall prepare plans for the District to prevent and mitigate disaster in its area of authority as  stated in section 27 of the bill, to maintain a close liaison with the Regional Disaster Management committee in drawing up its plans and performed in the District, the functions directed by the council, the Director-General.
